The Plymouth Proprietary Library is an independent library established in 1810, situated in St. Barnabas Terrace close to Victoria Park. The library contains a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books in a quiet, comfortable and friendly setting. We hold over 18,000 books including the latest works of fiction, classic crime novels, biographies, and maritime and local history collections, all of which are borrowable by our members.
In addition, we hold:
around twenty talks a year
book launches, poetry evenings and plays
a coffee morning each month
a programme of regular events including a book group, watercolour society, writing group, history of art meetings, latin group, and a textiles workshop.
The PPL is a registered charity and depends on the generosity and support of our library community.
