Now that we have revealed our vision for the library we need your feedback to finalise plans ahead of any grant applications.

Your Questions Answered

Thank you for questionaire responses we have received so far. Respondants have raised a number of concerns, so for clarity the Development Team answer some of them here.

Book Space

Whilst some bookcases will be lost due to improving access there will be a net gain on the amount of books we can display.

Quiet Study Space

The new adaptable space - this room to be kitted out with IT as a quiet study space and also available for hire when not otherwise required.

Building Costs

Apart from the upfront costs required to obtain planning consent (all of which can be claimed back if our bid is successful), the cost is proposed to come from outside funding bodies.

Accessibility

As a result of the proposed changes the whole library will be 'accessible to all' - this is a requirement for planning.

Running Costs

As a result of the proposed changes - solar panels / secondary glazing / boiler changes / lighting etc., ongoing library running costs will be lower.

Reception Window

Note the reception will only be required for some larger ticketed events and, when not required, the space will form part of the kitchen.

PPL Ambassadors

These would come from respected community leaders who are well placed to champion the works of the library and influence others.

Heating and Lighting

To be updated to become more efficient.

Disruption During the Build

It is proposed that the construction of the Exhibition space is 'completed' before knocking through to the main building. During the construction of the new kitchen we will lose one toilet for a limited time. Once the new kitchen is up and running then work on the construction of the adaptable space will start. By doing this it is hoped to keep any closure of the library to a minimum during the build.
